Anyone with a temperature reading of 100+ will be excluded from entry.  Adults must complete a written health questionnaire for the child they bring to school. Parents are not to enter into their child's classroom. All outside deliveries must be left outside of our school's front gate. Children are grouped into cohorts according to their age and remain with the same teacher for the entire day. Cohorts never combine with other cohorts. We have intensified our cleaning and disinfecting routine before, during and at the end of the school day. We practice social distancing and encourage children ages 3+ to wear a face mask when inside their classroom. Sunshine's staff and faculty must wear a face covering at all times while at school. Sand timers are placed at the children's sinks in the classrooms to encourage the children to wash their hands for 20+ seconds.

More information: We believe children need to play in order to learn about the world around them. Through play, children develop problem-solving skills, verbal expression of thoughts, social skills, self-discipline and independence. Our faculty is sensitive to the separation of parent and child and strives to build a trusting relationship by providing a safe and supportive atmosphere. Our teachers facilitate children's learning by planning daily developmentally appropriate activities which focus around a monthly theme. The classroom is arranged into "Learning Centers" with areas dedicated to blocks, dramatic play, table toy manipulatives, art, books, music and movement.  Each of these areas allows the children many opportunities to have "hands on" experiences while using all of their senses.

Montessori School of Sonoma
19675 8th Street East, Sonoma, CA

Hours: Pre COVID - 7am - 6pm.  During COVID 8am - 4pm

More information: The Montessori method aims to build the child’s self-discipline, self-motivation, and self-confidence to allow him to fulfill his own potential. The methods and materials are based on the young child’s unique aptitude for learning, which Dr. Montessori identified as the “absorbent mind”. In her writings she frequently compared the young mind to a sponge, literally absorbing information from the environment. The environment is attractive, orderly, with attention to quality and detail, and easily accessible to the child. Acquiring information in this way is a natural and delightful activity which will lead to a future curiosity and a desire for learning. The hand is the chief teacher of the child. In order to learn there must be concentration, and the best way a child can concentrate is by fixing their attention on a task s/he can perform with their hands. All of the equipment in a Montessori classroom allows the child to reinforce his impressions by inviting him to use his hands for learning. It is easier for the child to learn a particular skill during the corresponding sensitive period than any other time in her life. The Montessori classroom takes advantage of this fact by allowing the child freedom to select individual activities, which correspond to his own periods of interest. Our childcare enrichment program is play-based.
